Caltrans District 8

We installed more than 40 miles of underground fiber optic cabling to help improve a district’s traffic management center operations.

Value Delivered

For this fiber optic communication system installation project, KDC Inc., (formerly known as Dynalectric L.A.), was awarded the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) Partnering Award.

This was based on our team’s exceptional coordination and communication with other trades which helped us achieve zero lost time incidents, and finish the project on time and under budget.

Client Objectives

Caltrans needed electrical solutions to help their District 8 Traffic Management System (TMS) more efficiently gather and distribute real-time traffic information to the public and law enforcement.

Solutions

We installed 41 miles of fiber optic communication system along Interstate 15 underground, connecting various existing and new TMS field elements.

In addition to helping Caltrans District 8’s TMS more efficiently gather and distribute traffic information, this solution also improved their Traffic Management Center capabilities.

Client Background

Caltrans manages more than 50,000 miles of California's highway and freeway lanes, inter-city rail services, more than 400 public-use airports and special-use hospital heliports, and works with local agencies.
