LA County MTA - Redline Train Tunnels

Our conduit, lighting, and power solutions helped a transportation authority upgrade five underground tunnels.

Value Delivered

For the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA), KDC Inc., (formerly known as Dynalectric L.A.), provided cross-passages and miles of conduit, lighting, and wireway to complete work in five twin underground Redline Tunnels B251 B, C, D, E, and F.

Tunnels B, C, and D run 2.6 miles under Vermont Avenue between Wilshire and Hollywood Boulevard. Tunnels E and F run two miles under Hollywood Boulevard between Vermont and Vine Avenue.

We were able to seamlessly take over this commercial electrical construction project, after the original contractor completed various tasks such as tunnel boring.

To facilitate project completion, we set up passages between tunnels and emergency access. We also provided continual temporary construction power and communication, to help ensure the project proceeded safely and accurately.

Client Objectives

LACMTA needed electrical construction services to bring a multi-tunnel project in various stages to completion.

Our solutions included installation of:

  • 10 cross-passages between tunnels and emergency access above ground
  • Overhead conduit
  • Tunnel lighting systems
  • 480-volt power receptacles
  • More than five miles of wireway throughout all five tunnel walkways for control wiring
